‘Experiencing These Things Firsthand Left A Mark On My Heart’
An Alternative Spring Break journey to historic civil rights sites in Mississippi by ½ÄÏÌåÓý State students and faculty touched hearts and inspired community engagement. The six-day/five-night trip in March 2025 was sponsored by ½ÄÏÌåÓý State’s Office of Community Engaged Learning.

½ÄÏÌåÓý State Holds Second Annual Flashes Fighting Hunger Contactless Food Drive
½ÄÏÌåÓý’s Flashes Fighting Hunger Contactless Food Drive will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 25, from 1-4 p.m. at the intersection of Lincoln Street and Hilltop Drive. The collection station will be located on Hilltop Drive in front of Cartwright Hall.

Students Encouraged to Check SNAP Eligibility
SNAP, or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, is the most extensive federal nutrition program. With new exemptions in place due to the pandemic-related Federally Declared National Emergency, ½ÄÏÌåÓý State students may now qualify for food assistance.

From a young age, Makayla Sejat has had a passion for serving others. Her life has been full of service, from helping out in community kitchens as a child to now devoting her time in various college leadership roles. Now, she will take her efforts to the next level as ½ÄÏÌåÓý’s first Newman Civic Fellow.

½ÄÏÌåÓý State Holds Flashes Fight Hunger Contactless Food Drive on Aug. 26
Among the festivities marking the beginning of this unconventional semester, one ½ÄÏÌåÓý office is partnering with Portage County social service agencies to host a contactless food drive to collect items that will support members of campus and local communities. The Flashes Fighting Hunger Contactless Food Drive, organized by ½ÄÏÌåÓý State’s Community Engaged Learning, will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 26, from 4-8 p.m.
